What Storm?
The storm we’re talking about is brainstorming. Of course. Brainstorming is a creative thinking process that generates new ideas. This process encourages free thinking and allows all ideas to build ideas or explore possibilities together.
To trigger the storm. You need to be in the zone first. There are a few ways to get a grasp of how to let your brain storm, such as:
- Reverse it!
Ideate the problem that has possibilities first, then come up with ways to tackle it. - Random Words!
Let all the first words that came to your mind spill out, so you can arrange them into a coherent and fresh chain of ideas. - Rolestorm!
To embody many different perspectives, taking on characters may morph an idea into something unique since new insights are provided. - Passing the Idea Baton!
Compile ideas by triggering all the participants to complete each other and give feedback to refine the result. - Keep Asking Why!
Looking for the reasons why an idea can be awesome. Keep asking why until you come across the answer that makes others go, “Ooooh! That’s exactly why!”
Preparations for the storm
Don’t come empty-handed to ensure you went through the storm just fine. You should prepare yourself with some ideas, insights, and references—they might be handy for the discussion.
To get the right amount of storm, you should:
Set rules and expected outcomes to create a comfortable space for all participants. Important rules are that all ideas shall be considered, incorporate private sessions, and all ideas should be summarized.
